People know Águeda around the world for umbrellas. Not to be outdone, the Umbrella Sky, created in 2011 to brighten the streets of the city of Águeda while the Agit-Águeda animation program was running, has run the World through social networks and by the word-of-speech of people in wonder.

Wy is Águeda a Smart City

A smart city is one that is able to develop, create and respond to its inhabitants’ needs. For citizens, it is important to feel they are part of the town. Therefore, projects and applications developed should be carried out with this in mind.
Like other Portuguese cities, Águeda has been betting on urban intelligence that helps shape the lives of its citizens. As an example of this, the autarchy has implemented a hotspot project in which the population is freely available to the Internet. There is also the Águeda Living Lab, a space in which the Chamber helps to incubate new ideas and products.

What to do in Águeda

Every July, as part of AgitÁgueda art festival, hundreds of umbrellas are hung over promenades in the streets of Águeda, a municipality in Portugal. The beautiful tradition started not while ago, it's pretty new but has already earned the world fame for the place.
People go there to watch the concerts, to make the urban art scripts in the open air that were created in the city, to taste the gastronomy and to enjoy the entertainment and spectacles, all free. The extensive and diversified program of AgitÁgueda, which ends on the 29th, is awarded, was awarded for its quality and received, in January, the international recognition with the label Fest300 2018 - The World "s Best Festivals / The Best Festivals in the World This year, the budget reached 600 thousand euros for the 23 days of activities.

Narrow streets lit by glowing rainbow color umbrellas and balloons by the sun, making the whimsical scene on the street resemble a direct snapshot from a Dr. Seuss children’s book.

Águeda Tourism

Above all, visitors want to stroll the colorful streets. Now, in addition to the umbrellas, there are balloons and ribbons to top some paths and deserve the applause of visitors of various nationalities.
The installation not only adds a vibrant splash of color to the otherwise plain streets, but also creates a much needed shade from the heat.

Imagine roaming beneath a vast ray of colors, keeping safe from the sun without having to hold up your own umbrella! The city of Agueda can truly make you feel like a kid again throughout the month of July. The umbrellas and art exhibits are held near the heart of the city where many shops, cafes, restaurants and hostels are conveniently located.

Beautiful skies showing through the transparency of the umbrellas, enchanting my eyes with pure joy.

What waits beyond the Rainbow?

... naturally flowers!!!!

Urban Street Art

Fleeting, irreverent and unexpected. Street art surprises visitors to Portugal. We are often surprised by drawings on the streets, on billboards, on façades and large walls. These are true open-air galleries, where prominent artists from around the world try to give life and color to hidden-away places, with various techniques and messages, giving each place its own story.
The street art is very present in every corner of Águeda as well, as I go through the artistic universe of more than a dozen national and international artists, I Discover the incredible stories that the city walls have to tell, it's truly amazing!

Sure there goes in a lot of effort to make this visual delight for the people around. But nevertheless the outcome is simply amazing!
...I so enjoyed this in the best possible way!!!

Hope I collected enough photos for you to enjoy and have a glimpse of this amazing town. If you plan traveling to Portugal in July, make sure to stop by!
Águeda was the perfect fun and magic, completely the opposite of the madness out there. In fact, it looks like it’s own little world, I will come back for sure!

Óbidos | The Medieval Romantic Village

October 22, 2017 2510 Óbidos, Portugal

All of Óbidos has been declared a national monument. It is known as the "Wedding Present Town" because it was a gift King Dinis gave to Queen Isabel on their wedding day in 1282, but that alone is not what makes it such an extraordinarily romantic place - what make it one of Europe's most romantic medieval villages are its incredibly picturesque cobblestone streets lined with colorful houses filled with geraniums and bougainvillea, Gothic doorways and windows, whitewashed churches, flowerpots and dazzling tiles - all encircled by the walls of a 12th century castle. Scaling its 13m (45ft)-high medieval walls is the best way to admire this picture postcard-perfect place. Óbidos is a very small town and all of the major sights can be seen within in a couple of hours.
This delightful town was captured from the Moors by the first king of Portugal, D. Afonso Henriques in 1148. D. Dinis later presented it to his wife, Queen Santa Isabel. From then until 1883, the town of Obidos and the surrounding land was always the property of the queens of Portugal.
Also you will find a well preserved castle witch now it's used as a hotel, within the walls and a maze of streets and white houses that are a delight to stroll amongst.  Along with the Manueline porticoes, the colorful window boxes and the small squares, many fine examples of religious and civil architecture from the town’s golden days  provide a host of reasons for making a visit.
While I'm walking trough these walls I had a great perspective of the entire village and I stop for a moment and imagine how amazing would be living in there at that time, how kids could play and have a lot of fun exploring around.

This was a very interesting village, charm exudes from every corner of the streets of Óbidos. It is a very small place but yet huge in things to explore and love (colors, flowers, tiles...) for sure you won't be disappointed.
